Healing From Trauma: Healing from Parental Abuse and Reparenting the Self

Description

My project explores the process of healing from abuse and neglect, and nurturing one's inner child so that one may become whole in themselves before taking on such a serious responsibility as parenthood. I did this by studying motherhood and conscious, gentle parenting to understand the components of a healthy and loving mother-child bond, which one can emulate on their journey of reparenting themselves. In theory, this would provide not only an opportunity to unlearn harmful patterns towards one's own self, but also equip one with the instincts to lovingly and empathetically raise any children they might have. I will also seek to understand the psychology behind trauma, the effects it has on those who suffer from it, and the difficulties in healing from it.
